EBONY/CURATED has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, Curatorial Assistant to join their well-established contemporary gallery in Cape Town.

We require an experienced, highly motivated self-starter to work closely with the Director and Gallery Manager. A strong focus on artist liaison, organisation, research and writing is essential. The ideal candidate should have gallery experience and design skills.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting in all areas of running a gallery
  • Extensive artist and client liaison, face to face, telephonically and via email
  • Daily updating of social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram)
  • Sending mail drops to our database (MailChimp)
  • Planning and production of Art Fairs
  • Assisting at Art Fairs
  • Various Administration roles such as :
    - Research – conducting research on projects and drafting proposals
    - Creating and updating artist and exhibition information on bio’s and website
    - Designing and updating artist catalogues using InDesign
    - Writing press releases
  • Assisting with logistics between artists, clients, 3 galleries and framers
  • Assisting with storeroom management across all galleries
  • Assisting with maintaining and updating gallery database
  • A strong interest in visual arts
  • A willingness to learn and be a team player
  • Fine attention to detail
  • Disciplined, reliable and ethical
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Excellent communication, writing and research skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite (Lightroom, InDesign, Photoshop) WordPress
  • Diploma or Degree in a related field
  • Previous experience in the art industry
  • Strong graphic design skills
  • Good public relations and marketing skills
  • Driver’s license
Working hours:
  • 09h00 – 17h00 Monday to Friday
  • Alternate Saturdays 09h30-13h00
  • Occasional evenings as required
Start date: July 2019
Salary: Dependant on experience
